Final thoughts on social media minimalism

My productivity, attention span and clarity of thought all increased greatly with living without social media for a month. Yes guys, it has been a month!!! I felt like I broke bad habits (refreshing feeds and checking notifications) in a very short period of time. If all of that can be done in just 30 days? It’s well worth trying. I won’t be completely quitting social media and I’m not suggesting anyone do that, but I’m going to take control of my use of social media.  I do hope if you’re reading this you’ll think about taking a break from social media to see how you feel. Start with a weekend or a week, but aim for 30 days. Give yourself a chance to feel how I felt after just one month. It was a really great experience and I would highly recommend it for anyone. Challenge a friend to challenge a friend!😊

Mashujaa Weekend!

Lots of family time and relaxing over the long weekend, Mashujaa Day!!! NB: I hope y'all celebrated your Mashujaas.. So, we traveled to see my Grandparents where we gathered as the extended family, got to see relatives I've not seen in a minute.. and guys, good thing with going to see my grandparents, network connection there is not at it's best so that was great, for me!😂 Attention span has been increasing noticeably and I'm not feeling like I need to check other things while going on with my day. I actually tend to forget that I'm doing a social media detox cause it's become somewhat of a lifestyle for me..I have stayed focused on getting work done and being present in other things I was doing. Starting this was a great decision, it's really fulfilling !

Week one's check in!

Guys.. It's been a week since I started this social media break and as much as i'ts not been the easiest thing to do, it has for sure taught me a lot. Social media has allowed people to push their agendas and put their messages in front of us, with barely any way to avoid it. This was, without a doubt, one of my biggest problems with social media. I may not put stuff out there that everyone agrees with, but I certainly do my best to not spam other people with them or to be overly pushy. The people who do spam, who do brag, can get their messages in front of us, whether we like it or not and unfortunately, we have to deal with it.  Aside from that today, as I was checking my emails,   I bumped into one from someone who had started their own social media break. A line in the email said:   “The biggest benefit has been the removal of negativity and unnecessary information. Some people who were, how do I say this in a nice way…annoying, were still occupyi...

Weekend Edition(2)

Hey Guys,  This is a continuation to my weekend edition and what I got to achieve. As it is my ritual, I usually wake up and reach for my phone. I unlock it and first thing I do is check  Instagram.. only to notice that it is no longer there as I had frozen it. So, the  funny thing is, I ended up sneaking a bit of Snapchat, over breakfast until 2 minutes later when I realized I wasn't doing something right and quickly exited the app. I hadn't frozen it cause its not an app I spend too much of my time on but it will clearly affect me and I had to freeze it too.  Since it was the weekend, I spent most of my time organizing my room and doing lots of cleaning. My phone was feeling more like a brick in my pocket than the wasting-time device. Towards the end of the day, I felt like things were really slow, time was moving very slowly. It basically felt like I had more time on my hands than I ever did. This was the time I remembered I had a playlist and en...

Weekend Edition

Hey Guys,  My morning routine has began to change. I no longer wake up having the phone as my first thought. I'd usually wake up and go through the different social media platforms that i have; Instagram, Facebook.. and reply to chats on WhatsApp. That  I feel, should not be the case. As a continuation of my social media minimalism, on this particular day, I woke up and read my devotional book that I had been gifted by my parents but had never actually got myself to read it since my first thought in the morning was always to check social media. It's actually a great book! In addition, I  got to prepare for my family breakfast instead on spending time on social media... Wake up, say a prayer that you forget to, read that book that you've been meaning to, do a bit of exercise or even better, start that work out plan that you've been meaning to start, prepare some healthy breakfast for you and your family etc.. and by so doing you'll start...
Hey guys I'm Katingizle!  I know that I spend a little bit too much time on social media and  I am sure that most of you are in the same boat. I want to challenge myself to spending less time on social media and being more productive with my time.   So, taking time off social media is something we take very lightly but it is of great importance. This is a topic that often gets people really worked up and tend to get very opinionated about it. truth be told, it has both its ups, as it can be a source of income for many, and it has its downs as we will find out in the blog. You'll find people who say quitting is not worth is and others who say it is the worst thing ever. There are many reasons for one to call it quits: compulsively checking social media,  waste of time, running away from the realities of life, by for example, using memes and videos. This makes one feel very unaccomplished.  People may justify  this by letting others know how i...
